White is the easiest colour to dress up or leave plain. At a wedding, a white table works with any décor theme and photographs cleanly, so many couples skip tablecloths on buffet and gift tables. In an office or training room, a row of white tables looks tidy and matches most walls. At home, a white table brightens a small apartment and does not clash with existing furniture. Darker tops hide marks better, but a white plastic top shows you when it needs a wipe, which is a good thing for food service.
Many white tables sold in Kenya are chipboard or MDF with a white laminate. They look smart in the shop, but water gets in at the edges and the board swells, especially after a rainy outdoor event. Our tables use a solid HDPE plastic top, so there is no board to soak up water and no laminate to peel. The trade-off is that plastic can scratch if you drag sharp items across it. Wipe spills while they are fresh. Most food, tea and soda marks come off with warm water and a little dish soap. For stubborn marks, use a baking soda paste and a soft cloth, never steel wool, which scratches the surface and makes it stain faster. Avoid leaving permanent markers, hot pans or burning candles directly on the top. Store tables folded in a dry place out of direct sun when you are not using them, since years of strong sunlight dull any white plastic. The 1.2m white table suits a desk, a small dining table or a market stall and seats about 4. The 1.5m white table seats 6 to 8 and is a good middle size for dining and mid-size events.
