How to Clean a White Plastic Folding Table (and Keep It White)

Quick answer: Wipe a white plastic folding table with warm water and a little dish soap after every use. For stubborn stains, use a paste of baking soda and water on a soft cloth. Everyday Cleaning in Four Steps
- Clear food and crumbs, then wipe the top with a damp cloth.
- Wash with warm water and a few drops of dish soap.
- Rinse with a clean wet cloth so no soap film is left to attract dust.
- Dry with a towel or leave open in the shade to dry fully before folding.
If you run events, do this the same day. A stain that sits for a week in a store room is much harder to remove than one wiped off that evening.

What Not to Use
- Steel wool and wire brushes: they scratch the surface, and scratches hold dirt and stain faster.
- Repeated heavy scouring powder on one spot: it dulls the finish. Use a paste and a soft cloth instead.
- Strong solvents such as paint thinner: they are unnecessary for normal stains and can mark some plastics.
- Hot pans or jikos placed directly on the top: plastic tops are heat resistant for plates and dishes, not for cookware straight off the fire.
Do Not Forget the Frame
Wipe the steel legs with a damp cloth, especially after outdoor events on grass or near the coast where salty air speeds up rust. Make sure the hinges and leg locks are dry before folding. A drop of light oil on the hinges every few months keeps them moving smoothly.
How to Keep a White Table White for Years
- Store tables folded, standing on their edge or lying flat, in a dry place.
- Keep them out of direct sun when not in use. Years of strong sunlight dull any white plastic.
- Do not stack wet tables. Trapped moisture causes mould spots.
- Use a tablecloth for messy events such as children’s parties and curry buffets.
